USB to RS-232/422/485 Adapter
The USB to serial interface adapter offers an easy way to connect a DB9 serial device to a USB port. All configuration and electrical interface selections are handled through the driver, eliminating the need to open the enclosure to set jumpers or switches.
The serial port is software configurable for RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 with the electrical interface settings maintained locally, allowing the host computer to be repaired or upgraded without reconfiguring the serial port.

Review for Pro Grade FTDI USB to RS-232
I liked this USB to Serial Adapter because it was easy to work with and move out of the way if needed. For its size, it really had almost no weight to it and the physical size was smaller in comparison to a wireless mouse you would use with your computer and obviously thinner. The LED’s were visually bright and noticeable. I would certainly recommend using this adapter particularly when you are using it for a serial application that requires not only RS232 specifications but RS422 or RS485 signals as well.

I chose this adapter because it seemed like it fulfill the need I had for a serial adapter that I could run from a USB port on my laptop.First Visual Observations:At first you might think this serial adapter was a toy, it’s not. The components are held within a tough, black, hard plastic casing with screw-locks to secure the cable connection between the male to female RS-232 DB-9 connectors, or whatever method is being used for the serial application.Packaging and Contents:+ USB 2.0 to Serial adapter+ USB Cable+ Disk with drivers and manualAll contents were shipped in a small box with the adapter itself wrapped in an anti-static bag; the cable was in a separate sealed package with the driver disk below them.Setup and Operation:I had received this small and light weight USB 2.0 to Serial Adapter and put it right to work with an older Cisco 2621 Modular Access Router I was using for terminal work.As I have said this handy little adapter isn’t a toy. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate which initially doesn’t support terminal applications, that feature was unfortunately removed from Windows. To use the adapter for my application I had to download a terminal emulation program called Putty.This was an easy process for me to get going once the terminal emulation software and driver for the adapter was installed. I was able to configure which COM port I wanted to use, in my case I chose COM 6 as my communication port.+ 1. Use the provided USB cable and connected it to the serial adapter.+ 2. Allow the installation of the driver for the device, in my case I had to used the provided driver disk +3. Check for the new installation in your device manager, your new serial adapter will be listed under the COM port section in the device list. You can chose your COM port via your software.+ 4. Connect your terminal to the serial adapter.When using the serial adapter I noticed it has a series of LED indicators on its side, these included Power, TxD, and RxD, all functioned properly, the power LED activated once the USB cable was plugged in and the serial adapter connected to it. The TxD LED activated once the connection was made to the Cisco Router. The signal once connected as far as I could tell was nearly instant; I saw very little if any delay between the terminal window and the device output.My Summation & Recommendation:I found no cons in using this device even in a system that had chosen to remove the application I wanted to use it with.I liked this USB to Serial Adapter because it was easy to work with and move out of the way if needed. The LED’s were visually bright and noticeable.I would certainly recommend using this adapter if you need to add a serial port to your PC or Laptop, particularly when you are using it for a serial application that requires not only RS232 specifications but RS422 or RS485 signals as well.
